This Complete the Picture drawing pad from Melissa and Doug is brilliant. It is definitely too advanced for my Two and probably my Four. However, I think it's something my older two kids, ages five and seven, will really enjoy. I had to trim the pages to fit them inside the small baking sheets.
Magnetic Matching ActivitiesMade these very simple matching activities for my own Two. He enjoys this type of item, and it'll give him something to do when he's beginning to get antsy. As there are magnets on the back of each piece to keep him from slipping them, I'm hoping that this will be easy and fun. This does take a while to assemble, but I think it's going to be worth it. See the tutorial and receive the free printables within this post.
Starting Seems Coloring PagesDon't do a great deal of worksheets together with my grandparents, but a vehicle trip is the best time to pull some out. I made this set of 26 coloring pages. They simply should colour the pictures on each letter that begin with that letter. You can get the free printable in this informative article.
Magnetic Pattern Block ActivitiesWe Have routine blocks, but for this trip I bought a magnetic pair of blocks so the children can use them on their baking sheets. I discovered the large pattern block activities at PreKinders. I published a transport, snowflake, and animals set. The children can every set a paper on their board and cover it using the magnetic blocks. I also printed the small set of designs out of Kelly's Kindergarten and jump them with a ring. (You will need to shrink her designs prior to printing them should you'd like them little.) My older children can recreate these pictures onto their boards.
Books on CDOur Number one activity on long car rides is reading. Luckily, my Seven and Five can read on their own. However, my Four in particular does not have patience for long trips, and he is not ready to read independently. I'll read periodically, but it is not something I wish to do for ten hours! That is where books on CD come in. I borrow from the library, save them in my CD holder, and book multiple copies of each book so all the big kids can follow alongwith I Also known to my Best Picture Books for Kids Pinterest plank and found a huge pile of new-to-us publications to take along. (The tough part has been keeping my kids from studying them until the big trip!
